Alcoba is a charming municipality located in the area of Montes de Toledo. This small town stands out for its natural wealth, with places of great ecological value and its proximity to the Cabañeros National Park, being the municipality that has contributed the most surface area to this important park, with 17,000 hectares.
In addition, Alcoba is responsible for the administration of the population of Santa Quiteria, located next to the Pescados stream, which adds even more charm to this area.
Alcoba's economy is based mainly on agriculture and livestock, although in recent times Rural Tourism has been developed as a complementary activity, taking advantage of the natural and cultural wealth of the area. This has allowed visitors to enjoy the beauty of their surroundings, participate in outdoor activities and immerse themselves in the rich local culture.
The history of Alcoba dates back to prehistoric times, as demonstrated by the archaeological remains found in the area. It is believed that the region was inhabited since the Bronze Age, as attested by the remains found in the Los Morrudos cave.
During Roman times, the area was under the rule of the Roman Empire, and evidence of the Roman presence has been found in Alcoba, such as coins and remains of Roman villas.
With the arrival of the Visigoths, the area became part of the Visigoth kingdom of Toledo. However, with the Muslim invasion in the 8th century, Alcoba and its surroundings were under Muslim rule for several centuries.
It was not until the Christian Reconquest in the 13th century, with the conquest of Toledo by Fernando III, when Alcoba de los Montes and its territory became part of the kingdom of Castile.
In the Middle Ages, Alcoba was an important border enclave, located on the line of defense of the Castilian kingdom against the Muslim territories to the south. During this period, fortifications and castles were built in the area, such as Miraflores Castle.
