Hontanar

Hontanar It is located in a valley surrounded by imposing mountain ranges, which gives it a deep and sheltered location. It is part of the region of Montes de Toledo and borders the municipalities of Navas de Estena, Horcajo de los Montes and Retuerta de Bullaque in the province of Ciudad Real, as well as with Los Navalmorales, Navahermosa, Mensalbas, San Pablo de los Montes and Los Navalucillos in the province of Toledo.

The municipality is crossed by the Pasadero and Cedena streams, which originate in the mountains of Toledo and join in the old town of Malamoneda, maintaining the name of the latter until they flow into the Tagus River.

In addition, there is another stream known as Las Lanchas, which has its origin in the foothills of the mountains, in an area called La Tejera. However, during the summer months it dries out because the water that supplies it comes from a natural catchment in the upper part of the stream, the Estena River, which originates at the foot of the highest mountain of the Montes de Toledo, the Rocigalgo. In the town there are several fountains or springs, such as El Palancar and El Caño, a total of 5, most of which do not dry out in summer. They are worth visiting.
