The Tourism Sustainability Plan in the Cabañeros National Park: know all its main details

On December 4, 2020, it was published in the State official newsletter the resolution of Agreement between the Secretary of State for Tourism, the Board of Communities of Castilla-La Mancha and the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real for the execution of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in the Cabañeros National Park.

The project is framed in the Program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations, an instrument of the Spanish Administration to promote the transformation of Spanish tourist destinations towards sustainability.

Objectives and purposes

The main objective of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in the Cabañeros National Park is to enhance the offer of tourist services and the enhancement of the natural and cultural resources of the Cabañeros destination from the sustainable management of tourism. Another purpose sought by the Plan is to promote socioeconomic development, improve the quality of life of the local population, the participation of local agents and the promotion of tourism practices compatible with the conservation of the natural and cultural values of the area. region.

Municipalities belonging to the Plan

The project has investments in five municipalities in the province of Ciudad Real and that are part of the Cabañeros destination: Alcoba and Santa Quiteria, Horcajo de los Montes, Navas de Estena, Retuerta del Bullaque and Pueblonuevo del Bullaque (integrated into the Parque zoning National and Area of Socioeconomic Influence); and El Robledo, integrated into the scope of action of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.

To carry it out, the Plan acts on five work areas: Public use of the Cabañeros National Park, Architectural Heritage, Destination Management, Offer and development of tourism products and Sustainable Promotion.

Financing and management

The Tourism Sustainability Plan in the Cabañeros National Park is promoted and financed by the Secretary of State for Tourism, the Ministry of Economy, Business and Employment of the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha and the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, an entity that manages and coordinates all actions and investments in sustainable tourism carried out in the Cabañeros destination. 

The Provincial Council of Ciudad Real coordinates the Sustainability Plan in collaboration with the Cabañeros National Park and the tourism agents: tourist accommodations, active tourism and ecotourism companies, restaurants, local producers and the town councils of the municipalities of the Plan: Alcoba and Santa Quiteria, Horcajo de los Montes, Navas de Estena, Retuerta del Bullaque and Pueblonuevo del Bullaque and El Robledo.

The total investment of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in the Cabañeros National Park is 1,805,000 euros, a commitment to the socioeconomic development of the Cabañeros destination.
